Caroline County Release Meanings
A Caroline County release means that one custody episode ended or changed. It does not always mean the person walked free. The Caroline County Department of Corrections runs the Detention Center and holds both pretrial detainees and people serving local terms. Someone can leave that building on bond, after time served, under a court order, or through monitored home detention. Another person may be sent to a Maryland prison, a different jail, federal custody, or immigration custody. Each outcome removes the person from local detention, but only some are community releases.

Search and preparation costs can apply after two free hours, and the county may ask for advance payment. Since the schedule is tied to a prior fiscal year, ask for a current estimate before costs are incurred.

Why Caroline Release Requests Differ
Agency ownership is a defining local fact. Caroline’s first jail dates to 1797 at Pig Point, now Denton. The current Detention Center and a separate county Department of Corrections were established in 1995. The county resources package explains that jail oversight moved away from the Sheriff at that point. The Sheriff still handles law-enforcement and incident records, but it is not the operator of the county jail.
That history changes where a Caroline County release request goes. A Sheriff press release or arrest report may explain why custody began. It cannot replace the Department of Corrections record of when and how custody ended. Caroline County Recent Release Records
Caroline County publishes no official jail roster, released-person archive, rolling 24-hour view, rolling 72-hour view, booking-result release field, or jail-information app. There is no honest county-wide list of everyone released today or during the past three days. The county FAQ only promises name, charge, and bond information for a person who is housed. The Sheriff’s news archive is incident-specific and is not a release feed.
A recent Caroline County release must therefore be checked one person at a time. Call Corrections, look for new court events, search VINE, and request the jail’s dated release or transfer entry. These systems can update at different times. A three-day query may catch a late court or VINE entry, but widening the period does not create a complete list. The county’s Community Assistance and Rehabilitation Enterprise program, known as CARE, places supervised low-security incarcerated people on projects for public agencies and nonprofit groups. Check the custody record before describing someone in CARE as released. A person may work at a community project and return to secure custody. The program is also different from monitored pretrial home detention, where a court permits residence outside the facility under conditions. Program labels should be read with the court order, jail status, and release entry rather than inferred from where the person was seen.
Caroline Detention Scale and Releases
The FY2025 Caroline County financial report gives useful operating context. It reports 38 correctional officers, an average daily detention population of 43, and average daily work release of zero. Separate county material lists a maximum capacity of 132. Those figures describe staffing, capacity, and a daily snapshot. They do not state how many people were booked or released during the year.
Daily population cannot be converted into a Caroline County release count, average length of stay, or turnover rate without the underlying admission and departure data. A requester seeking release totals should ask whether an existing annual report or aggregate field already exists. The county should not be asked to construct a new list from individual files.
Caroline County Release Facility
Caroline County Detention Center is the only operating detention facility in the project’s official facility map. It sits at 101 Gay Street in Denton and is operated by the Caroline County Department of Corrections.
